WELL, he was chosen as a special selection in the ONGOING Angouleme Comics Festival in France for his new book, "Meanwhile in White River Junction" called "Pendant ce Temps a White River Junction" in French. It's an awesome book, and he's an awesome guy! I miss him tons!

Sigh! Well, this is it guys! Again, I have, by no means, exhausted the current Bikeman page surplus, but I've gotten too close to the point at which I've printed Minicomics. The idea of starting this Bikeman webcomic was to be a sort of archive for pages that had already been released in minicomic form. If I pass that point and start posting pages that aren't in print, it just doesn't make sense. So, for now, this dragon is going to take a mystic slumber! Thanks for reading and stay tuned!

Also, I haven't played the new Zelda: Skyward Sword game, but a couple people now have said that you can spot a Bikeman-esque character running one of the shops in the game . Apparently he runs an airship and uses a bike pedaling system to keep it aloft! My heart soooooooooons!

Hello faithful Bikeman readers! It is with a heavy heart that I am to inform you that this will be the last week of Bikeman updates before I take a little bit of a hiatus. Now, DON'T WORRY, we have, by no means, exhausted the amount of Bikeman pages that have already completed. There is another 150 waiting in the wings. However, we are starting to catch up with the minicomics that have been released thus far. Also, work on other projects has occupied a lot of my time. Stuff like Leo Geo, work for the Air National Guard, Leo Geo 2 (!!), and pinball work for Stern (!!), has come onto the front burner. Bikeman will continue! The pages are there! We're just going to take a little break!

This spring is going to be pretty crazy, but it's going to be a lot of fun! Amongst all the who-haw, there are multiple places where you can get your Jon Chad fix:

- Drop Taget Zine Blog: The blog for the pinball zine that Alec Longstreth and I do. We're still going strong and are starting to shape up the next issue.

-The Stern Pinball Blog: The currently only manufacturer of pinball machines has graciously extended a portion of their site for Alec and I to run wild. I post illustrations and dream machines.

- The Fizzmont Institute of Rad Science: The fake science institute that bankrolls my Leo Geo books has asked me to start writing a blog that covers what goes on at the Fizzmont Auxiliary Imaging Division. It has somewhat turned into a crafting site that goes over various screen-printing, letterpress, and handmade objects that I create all from the world of Leo Geo. Science!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ME! Somehow, I've managed to keep my miserable carcass on this planet for 26 years. I don't see 26 as any sort of sizable milestone, but, if nothing else, it means that the annual brouhaha known as the Capricornucopia is right around the corner. Man alive, if there is one party that I'll NEVER miss, it's the Capricornucopia. Last year the theme was time travelers. I dressed up as...me, but I was carrying around a baby doll all night that was ALSO DRESSED AS ME! It was me from the past. I tried to keep the little guy out of trouble, but it's hard!

Sigh, I know that these transition pages must be getting tedious, so I have a little extra something something for you all. Recently, my floor-mate (and awesome student) Laurel Leake and I held a Cat and Gold-Themed floor party. It was ba-zonkers. I wanted to add an extra Jon-Chad-touch to the decorations, so I screen-printed some gold and cat prints. This was one of my first forays into halftone printing, and I was EXTREMELY surprised with how well it worked.

There were about five different cats, gold bars, gold coins, and a big money sign. The coolest thing about these prints were that they were derived from images downloaded off the web. 72dpi. They held up really well. Here was my favorite:

The SAD thing is that this is the first image that comes up if you google "King Cat" on google image search. Are you for real, Google? 'Cause, last time I checked, there was a little something called King Cat Comics! You know, 72 issues! Loved by all! Ugh, whatever. That cat is so regal, I'm going to let it slide.

Ahhhh, another transition page! How atmospheric! It's like the sun cresting over the horizon on Christmas morning. Wait! Xmas is IN TWO DAYS!! I got back into Burlington, VT (where my parents live) on the night of the 22nd; just in time for the Annual Chadurjian Christmas Triathlon on the 23rd! Event number 1 is the annual bloodletting, where we all go down to the Red Cross and donate blood. The machines that draws blood records how long your donation takes, thus giving us quantifiable numbers as to how we did. For the second year in a row I won this event with a (not too great) time of 5:48. It was a good enough time though! Mom Chad came in close second at 5:53. Too close for comfort.

The second event is the annual cookie decorating. This year was tough. My brother was really clever with the angel-shaped cookies. Here's tray 1:

Here we can see a diagram of a breast done by my sister on the left, a Boston Celtics player below that, and a shark head by my brother on the right-ish side of the tray. Here's tray 2:

My brother was bringing out the big guns with this one. On the top left you can see Mysterio from Spider-man. A little bit down and to the left of Mysterio is the Shocker, also from Spider-man. I mean, it's PRETTY good, but when you play with the big dogs, YOU'RE GONNA SEE THE TEETH. At the bottom-center of this tray you can kinda see my boot-cookie depicting the meteor that killed the dinosaurs. Here's were most of my cookies ended up:

AHHHH, yesssssssss. At the top left we see a piece that I call, "Violent Crime; the disintegration of the American Morality Fortress". Moving down and right from there is Krang. Down and to the right of Krang is a dragon head. In the bottom left hand corner is duck man (??). Above the dragon head and Krang is perhaps my most ambitious piece of the year:

Using cookie scraps and some engineering know-how, I've constructed a cookie replica of Barad-dûr, Sauron's tower from the Lord of the Rings. See how imposing the back-lighting makes it! Look at that M&M eye peering at you through the thinly veiled courage that shrouds your soul!

The last event of the Triathlon is informally the Bailey's drink-off, which I didn't win.

This really has been an amazing day! I got to go to the screen-printing shop where I USED to work (and where my brother NOW works) and visit with them. I even got to catch shirts that my brother was printing as they came off the conveyor belt. How flipping cute is that?!? They have a new 10-station, 8-color automatic press! I knew it was going to be there, but wasn't informed that it came FROM THE FUTURE. that thing was outfitted with so many sensors, motors, magnets and computers, that I was amazed that my brother had gotten the hang of it in a short amount of time. Christmas is going to have to pull all its stops if it wants to compete with how good the 23rd has been! Happy Holidays!

It was still a great show, and I wanted to personally thank Montreal for being SO CUTE. For real. I have gone to Montreal a couple of times in the past year, and every time it digs its poutine claws into me a little more. It's also no real surprise that I completely fell in love with the bike culture. Scamander and I would have a ball. I got something sweet in the stables for you all this Thursday!

Bikes getting cut up is really sad. My dad had a bike when I was growing up that we named Punky Tosser. When dad Chad and I went out to try new bikes, my dad got violently thrown off the bike while trying to not hit a squirrel. I thought I was going to have to call an ambulance, but he was fine, and really impressed with the quality of the bike's breaks.

Well, well, well, well, well! Look what we have here! A could weeks ago, I got a couple copies of my new book, Leo Geo and His Miraculous Journey Through the Center of the Earth. I'm the proudest book daddy ever! I'm so happy with how it turned out! The cover is coated in a matte finish, as opposed to a gloss finish, which looks super-duper classy! The interior pages are printed on a cream paper, and they have a really nice weight to them. I'm such a book geek!

For those of you that have a copy of the old-school Leo Geo; this version has been completely redrawn, and the story has been tightened up like tight socks.

The only kicker is that the book doesn't officially come out until March 13, 2012, so for now, I just have my 3 copies left in my office for me to drool over. I'll be bring it to conventions to show around, so if you see me, I'd love to show it to you!

When I was formulating the foundation of this story, I knew that I wanted to have 3 kids under Brasko's wing. When I was and ESL tutor at SCAD, on of my students told me that in high school, he had been in a gang. His job was just to make the leader look more badass, and back him up. I think that's why I wanted to give Brasko some pals.

Also, "bad bread" was the best I could come up with at the time, but I'm not sold on it. Maybe something with "crumby" would be more apropos...

Oh ha ha ha ha ha! Bread jokes! When people ask what prompted me to draw this book, I rustle up a couple sound, smart-sounding reasons. I also like to sum it up with, "it's basically a love letter to all the things I like." Really, though, shouldn't that be the only reason we draw stuff?! We really should only draw stuff that we like!

I'm getting ready to appear at a show this weekend in Reading, PA, the Geek Speak Super Show! It should be a lot of fun! I've never been to a show as mainstream as this one seems and I'm pretty pumped!! I'll have a half table next to Colleen Frakes, my partner in crime.

Things are really busy here at Jon Chad HQ, as always. I've been getting close to selling out of Bikeman Issue 1, so I decided to do a quick reprint just to get through the summer. When I first screen-printed the BM#1 cover, I thought it was really subtle and delicate, but over the year I've grown to really dislike it. It just doesn't spring out at you enough and catch your eye...

Hey Everybody! I really like the last panel!

I went to Paint & Pixel this weekend and had a total blast. It was, I'll admit, extremely exhausting. I spent the majority of the day doing portfolio reviews for CCS. When I was done, I had about 15 minute left in the show. I decided just to take a breather and not spend the last minutes of the day running around. It was exactly what I needed but I'm pretty bummed I missed out on some good trading opportunities!!

There's still more shows this season, though!! I'm going to be attending the Geek Speak Super Show, which is new to me, and I have NO IDEA what to expect. I'm also going to MECAF, which is always a thrill!

Things are getting really busy here at the school with the Thesis Project due! Teaching-wise, things are cooling down, but I'm also in the final stages of the Leo Geo art, which is really exciting! This whole town is putting its collective shnoz to the grindstone!

How is everyone doing this happy Friday!? Things are super-duper busy in the world of Jon Chad, but as always, it's a ton of fun! I've been doing a lot of work on my book for Roaring Brook Press lately, and this week I've been re-lettering the whole kit-and-kaboodle. It's given me a new respect for lettering. If I had to do nothing but letter day in and day out, I would go CRAZY! Hopefully, I'll be done by the end of the weekend.

I just printed out my Bikeman Issue 3 covers today. I'll be taking them to the printers where they'll be combined with the guts and bound together, Yay! I've got to get my rear in gear and get moving on some of my other projects including, but not limited to, the new issue of Drop Target Zine, the pinball zine by Alec Longstreth and yours truely!

What I really wanted to do today is take the opportunity to talk about my favorite, and current employer, The Center for Cartoon Studies, how I got to be where I am, and how much CCS has meant to me. For those of you that know the tale that is my life, this might be old hat.

When I was in college, I actually heard from my grandma that there was comics school in Vermont. I recognized the irony, having grown up in Vermont all my life and having left to attend art school, only to have an amazing comics-centric institution emerge in the wake of my departure. Since I was still in college, I inquired about interning at the school during my summer break of '07. I was accepted! The aspect of the school that made an impression on me almost immediately was the high quality of the student work, and the vivacity of the creative environment the students surrounded themselves in. The encouragement that the students expressed to each other, and the enthusiasm with which the faculty engaged and elaborated on the comics medium, was unbelievable. I gain so much more knowledge and appreciation for comics just through diffusion. It was pretty much one of the best summers ever.

After I had graduated in May '08, I was actually offered a staff position at the school. Let's put it into perspective:

"JON CHAD! You're a wizard! Do you want to work at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?"

Are you high?! OF COURSE I do. If spending one summer at the school was enlightening, being able to work with, and interact with the students and faculty year-round has been the best. The passion for cartooning is palpable. The competitive spirit at the school is 1000% the friendliest I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

Last year, I was offered the chance to co-teach a class with one of my best buds of all time, Alec. Teaching has turned out to be a really rewarding and important part of my life. Being a part of the faculty has given me insight into how dedicated and successfully synthesized CCS's curriculum is. It's a tough road to commencement, but the students, on a regular basis, exceed my expectations.

CCS, and by extension White River Junction, have turned out to be a really perfect place to spend my post graduating years. If I wasn't steeping in all of these creative comics juices, I don't know if I would have this many Bikeman pages, this many books under my belt, or have made as many invaluable connections with students, faculty, and artists. The friends I've made here I will treasure FOREVER!

The Center for Cartooning Studies offers an opportunity to hone in a young cartoonist's passion; an opportunity that is hard to match anywhere else. If you aren't familiar with the Center for Cartoon Studies, I encourage you to check out their website, or attend an event if you're local. They are doing something really amazing with comics, and they're worth keeping your eye on.

Oh man! VIOLENCE! As some of you know, I have a really hard time putting down spot blacks. Even though I did this page a while ago, I can still remember being uneasy with such a commitment! Things are super-duper busy at Jon Chad HQ. I'm burning the midnight oil tonight so that I can get ahead with my work and tend to things that have fallen through the cracks. Namely: FIXING MY WEBSITE. My hosting was cut from the old SCAD server that I was on and I just haven't had the time to fix it. Thank goodness this new-fangled BLOGGER brouhaha has all these pages functions! I think I have the store up and running...

This is the weirdest combination of things I like / are important to me... Speaking of Bikeman, though, Issue 3 is going off to the printers this week. It'll be debuting at this year's MoCCA Festival, so keep those peepers peeled!
